How to Keep Condo Windows Looking Their Best Throughout the Year

Living in a condo has plenty of advantages. You don't have to worry about mowing the lawn or cleaning the gutters, but clean windows are still something you'll notice every day. Even a nice view can lose its appeal when the glass is covered in dust, water spots, or fingerprints.

After spending years working in window washing, I've found that a few simple habits can help keep condo windows looking cleaner between professional visits.

Dust the Inside First

It's surprising how much dust settles on window frames and tracks. Before cleaning the glass, wipe down the frame and vacuum the tracks if they need it. Otherwise, that dirt often ends up smeared across the glass.

This only takes a few minutes and makes the finished result look much better.

Use the Right Cleaning Cloth

Paper towels can leave lint behind and sometimes create streaks.

A clean microfibre cloth is usually a better choice. One cloth can be used to wash the window, while a dry one helps polish away any remaining moisture.

Don't Clean in Direct Sunlight

This catches a lot of people by surprise.

When the sun is shining directly on the glass, cleaning solution dries much faster than you expect. That often leaves streaks before you have a chance to wipe everything down.

An overcast day or a shaded side of the building usually gives better results.

Keep Screens Clean Too

A dirty screen can make a perfectly clean window still look cloudy.

If your condo allows the screens to be removed safely, giving them a gentle rinse every so often helps keep dust and pollen from collecting.

Just be sure they're completely dry before putting them back.

Watch for Hard Water Spots

Rain isn't usually the biggest problem. Hard water from sprinklers or repeated mineral deposits can leave marks that become harder to remove over time.

If you notice spots starting to appear, cleaning them sooner is usually much easier than waiting several months.

Wipe Up Condensation

During colder months, condensation can collect along the bottom of the window.

Besides leaving marks on the glass, too much moisture can eventually affect window frames if it's left sitting for long periods.

A quick wipe with a dry cloth helps prevent that.

Know Your Limits

One thing I always remind people is that not every window is meant to be cleaned from inside.

Many condo buildings have windows that require special equipment or access from the exterior. Trying to reach awkward angles can become dangerous very quickly.

There's nothing wrong with leaving those windows for professionals who have the proper equipment and training.

Keeping the inside glass clean throughout the year still makes a noticeable difference, and when it's time for the outside to be cleaned, you'll already be halfway there.
